Community food support is helpful, and often vital for people experiencing food insecurity. But, it doesn’t address the root cause of the problem – simply put, not having enough money to afford food.

This is why Feeding Bristol want to help people to maximise their income by making sure everyone knows what financial support they are entitled to. To do this, we have worked with the Independent Food Aid Network (IFAN) and a range of advice and support services across the city to put together the ‘Worrying About Money?’ Leaflet.

The ’Worrying About Money?’ Leaflet has been produced as part of the ‘Cash First’ approach to addressing food insecurity. This means that instead of immediately signposting to food support, we make sure that first and foremost, people have the knowledge and support to access any money they are entitled to.

By taking this approach we hope that the people of Bristol are empowered to access support, can afford food for themselves, and that in the long run, we reduce the need for food support in the city.
